Older adults are the fastest growing population in the US! Older adults love to meet new people and sit and chat. By visiting with older residents, you can really learn a lot! Go meet an older adult, and make a difference-for both of you!

Brookstone Estates

Brookstone is an independent living community for senior citizens. Brookstone provides a lively environment for seniors while still allowing the freedom of independent living! Brookstone has many activities for their residents ranging from bingo/game nights to arts and crafts. Interested in becoming part of the excitement? Volunteers are needed to assist with bingo, game activities, arts and crafts, and other ongoing activities. NOTE: There is a background check required. Please print out this application and return to either SCS office or Brookstone.

Manicures

Douglas Rehab and Care Center is a long term resident facility that aids in the rehabilitation and recovery of residents as well as assisting with basic living skills for residents who may not be able to live alone anymore. Douglas Rehab is looking for motivated students who enjoy good conversation as well as creative nail art. Connect and visit with the residents in a variety of ways. 716 18th Street, Charleston, IL 61920. 

Volunteers are needed to visit with and paint finger nails for residents. All supplies will be provided.

Hilltop Convalescent Center

Hilltop is an assisted living community located in Charleston.  Hilltop believes that all individuals are entitled to dignity regardless of disability or disease. Residents in this facility are composed of senior citizens, developmentally disabled individuals, and individuals recovering from injury or surgery. Nursing Home Visits-Newman Center

Nursing Home Visits is a volunteer opportunity coordinated through the Student Volunteer Center at Newman Catholic Center. Come take a moment to bring joy to the elderly by visiting them in some of the local nursing homes around the area.

Volunteers are needed to participate in this program to visit with residents. Visits for Spring 2012 will take place at 2:00pm on Wednesdays and 3:00pm on Fridays.

Peace Meal Senior Nutrition Program

Peace Meal Senior Nutrition Program’s mission is to provide quality meals for healthier lives. We help seniors improve their nutrition, sustain their independence and enhance the quality of their life by providing meals, fellowship and connections to other needed services. Almost every phase of the program can use volunteers, and the program’s success depends largely on the support of participants and others in the community.

Volunteers are a vital part of all aspects of the program from setting tables, to serving food, doing dishes and delivering meals.

Heritage Woods

Heritage Woods is an independent living community for active, retired seniors in the Charleston area. The center provides a wonderful option for older adults to maintain their independence. Heritage Woods, located on Polk Avenue, recently opened their doors in November 2011. Their beautiful facility currently houses 31 residents. Heritage Woods provides a fun and engaging atmosphere appropriate for the older adult. 480 West Polk Ave, Charleston, IL.

Volunteers are needed to help run activities including bingo, exercises, movie nights, art classes, etc. Volunteers are also needed for general office support tasks (answering phones, making copies, etc). Heritage Woods is looking for volunteers who are interested in event planning, leadership opportunities, and marketing interests.

Eberhardt Senior Community

Eberhardt Senior Community is a not-for-profit retirement community located in Arthur.  Eberhardt provides care for seniors with varying levels of health care needs.  Eberhardt currently houses 52 residents at The Arthur Home and 23 residents at Eberhardt Village Assisted Living. Volunteers are needed to participate in a variety of activities including: event planning, fundraising, office support, and special project help (such as cooking, music, and technology classes). Eberhardt is also looking for volunteers with graphic design, website, and marketing experience.
