Last year, Veteran Services and EIU students built over 300 care packages and sent them to the U.S. Forces in Afghanistan. Pictured below is the Tactical Operations Center of a combined U.S. and Polish Forward Operating Base, saying “thanks” to EIU for the packages. We support our troops!

The Black Knights of the Embarras Intramural Bowling team poses at one of their weekly get-togethers. Lead by Reggie Denard, the Black Knights were the 2012 Intramural bowling champs! The Black Knights of the Embarras are a registered student organization at Eastern and are geared towards veterans. For more information on how to become a member, contact their current president, Ann Boehlefeld.

The week prior to Veteran’s Day 2012, Eastern hosted many events to celebrate veterans and their families. At the event pictured below, a panel of three student veterans came and told both a story of their time in the service, as well as a story about their transition to Eastern Illinois University. Brandi, Chris, and Rebecca provided EIU students a glimpse of military service.

Career Services office sponsored a veteran resume building workshop. Topics included resume format, key-words, and translating military skills into terms that a human resources intern can understand. Career Services is located in the Human Services building and committed to supporting job placement for student veterans.
