Registered Student Organizations

Get involved!

As a CTE major, you are encouraged to become involved in the many registered student organizations that will provide you with opportunities to network with other students, develop yourself professionally, and take on leadership roles.

If you are a CTE-Technology major, some of the technology-related student organizations include Construction Club, EIU eSports, Habitat for Humanity, Photography Club, and the Sustainability Club.

If you are a CTE-Family Consumer Science major, check out the following FCS organizations available to you: Student Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, Kappa Omicron Nu, Student Dietetic Association, Professional Convention Management Association.

If you are CTE-Business major, check out the following business organizations available to you: http://www.eiu.edu/business/studentorganizations.php. Also learn about Pi Omega Pi. This is Eastern Illinois University’s National Business Education Honor Society, and select students are invited to join this organization based on their academic performance.

In addition to joining student organizations related to your content, CTE majors are strongly encouraged to join a student organization related to teaching. Some of the organizations available at Eastern are described below.

The main objective of the Student Education Association-IEA/NEA is to cultivate and empower future teachers by assisting and protecting their professional development throughout the higher education process. The Student Education Association-IEA/NEA is dedicated to teacher quality, community outreach, and political action. You can find more information at: http://eiusea.wordpress.com/.

The Middle Level Educators Club gives education majors an opportunity to experience and grow from additional activities, which help them prepare for their teaching careers. This club focuses on the needs of education majors who are interested in teaching grades 6-8.

The Minority Teacher Education Association works to provide direction and support to minority student teachers in their pursuit of undergrad teaching degrees and to help members reduce barriers for minority students entering higher education. For more information, contact the Association's advisor, Mona Davenport, at mydavenport@eiu.edu.
