The Social Science Major and Integrated Learning
The Social Science major naturally fits the standards of Integrated Learning. During their experience at EIU, students observe real classrooms, and reflect how the methods they have learned can be incorporated into real life experiences. Social Science students complete a six-week practicum as a part of their professional education course component. Social Science majors also complete a 15-hour mini practicum through the Professional Educators Network Social Studies Project (PEN-SS). All students also complete a one semester student teaching experience, in which they personally utilize their accumulated professional teaching knowledge. In this way, the Social Science major helps students become "confident, lifelong learners and engaged, responsible citizens."
