The Student Life Office strives to support the university's mission by offering students opportunities outside of the classroom. One way that we do this is by offering graduate and undergraduate internships.
Many graduate programs require students within the degree program to complete an internship or practicum for additional experience. Within Student Life, we conduct a multitude of activities — advising students, planning and implementing programs, leadership development, supervising events, and working with artists' contracts.
In addition to the variety of experiences we offer, there are three types of student groups with which you can work:
- Programming/Entertainment Board
- Student Government
- Multicultural Groups
"I loved my experience in SLO, because I was able to work closely with a variety of students and learn about their experience while attending EIU. I also was able to dabble in all the different areas that Student Life advises which made me feel that I had a better understanding of the population the SLO serves on a daily basis."
~Brittany Meding, Fall 2011 Intern
As academic programs strive to give students real life experiences, internships for undergraduate students are becoming more and more important. Several academic programs are even making completion of an undergraduate internship a graduation requirement.
In Spring 2011, the Student Life Office began offering internships to undergraduate students. Recently, we have offered graphic design and marketing internships, though we are willing to work with individual students to design an internship to address their interests and needs.
