Actively Engaged

Graduate students in the School Psychology program are active in research and the profession. They conduct original research in topics related to the field.

Graduate Showcase

Graduate Student Angela Boyle and Professor Floress discuss Angela's research on classroom behavior management.

Students complete three practica (three full semesters) in area public schools.

Classroom-based Practicum Students are placed in the classroom in elementary schools. They work with teachers to learn firsthand about the curriculum, academic and behavioral issues of students, the school as a system, service delivery models, and so on.
Assessment Practicum Under the supervision of licensed school psychologists, our students complete intellectual, academic achievement, factional behavioral, and social-emotional assessments, and behavioral observation and interviews to determine students’ current functioning level for the purpose of developing interventions.
Consultation and Counseling Practicum Students gain experiences in academic and behavioral consultation with teachers and parents, and group and individual counseling focusing on social skills and adjustment issues.

Capstone Experience

Our students have two types of capstone experiences: a thesis and a developmental portfolio. A thesis provides students the opportunity to engage in original research developing expertise in a subject area, and making an important contribution to the field.

Students also complete two portfolios, at the end of their coursework and at the end of their internship experiences assessing knowledge competency and performance competency, respectively.
