Candidates must be US citizens, enrolled in good standing as full time students at EIU and must be majoring in one of the languages offered by the department of foreign languages. Candidates must have attained junior status by the time the scholarship is paid out and have at least one semester remaining at EIU. Preference will be given to teacher certification candidates and those with financial need. One upper division course in the target language should have been successfully completed with at least a "C". Additional upper division courses will be given some weight in the selection process. Candidates should have at least a 3.0 GPA overall and in their language major. Candidates should submit in writing a scholarship application. Past recipients are not eligible to apply for or receive the Sundheim Study Abroad Scholarship a second time. Candidates are generally not eligible if they have already earned 12 semester hours or more in their target language via study abroad. Candidates should detail any previous foreign travel and/or study programs in which they have participated.
