The Eric Schuster award was created to award a full-time freshman or transfer student with financial need, majoring in Journalism and intending to pursue a newspaper journalism career. At the time of selection in the Spring semester, the recipient must be a full-time freshman or transfer student at Eastern Illinois University in good academic standing, majoring in Journalism, and has earned 12 to 18 credit hours at EIU. The recipient must have demonstrated his/her commitment to newspaper journalism by engaging in substantial work at the Eastern Daily News. The recipient must demonstrate financial need. Preference shall be given to racial minority applicants, but the recipient is not mandated to be a minority. The recipient may receive the award one time only. This scholarship is announced in the Spring Semester and made payable in the Fall semester to Eastern Illinois University to be first applied against costs (tuition, fees, housing, etc.) associated with the recipient(s) attending Eastern Illinois University.
