Alumni Presentation on Careers in Springfield
A highlight of the Fall 2012 semester was a panel discussion on career options for Political Science majors in Illinois state government and politics. The panel was the brainchild of the officers of the Political Science Association, and their efforts yielded an excellent event with lots of useful and practical observations on steps to take in pursuing careers in Springfield and strategies for being successful in the arena of state government and politics.
The panel (listed in order of above photo) consisted of Ronald Deedrick, Travis Bounds, Adam Howell and Alison (Mormino) Maley. All of the panelists had earned the B.A. through Eastern Illinois University's Political Science Program, with Travis Bounds and Alison Maley also completing the M.A. degree in Political Science at EIU. Ron Deedrick and Travis Bounds spoke on life, duties and challenges associated with working for the Illinois General Assembly; Ron drew from his experiences with the Republican Staff and Travis provided the Democratic Party Staff perspective. Adam offered insights based on his position as a Legislative Liaison for the Illinois Department of Revenue, and Alison addressed not only her previous legislative staff experiences but also the opportunities for having an impact as Governmental Relations/Public Relations Director for the Illinois Principals Association.
