A Sample of Professional, Academic and Service Links for Political Science Majors and Minors

The College of Sciences: The College of Sciences includes a range of opportunities for students, and political science majors definitely should be aware of the Scholars of Undergraduate Research and Social Science Writing Awards competitions.

The Council on Undergraduate Research:  The nation's premier organization devoted to the promotion of excellence in student research, and its section for students provides a wide range of information on scholarship opportunities, including conference presentations and journal publications.

The Illinois Political Science Association: A professional association for Illinois political scientists that holds an annual conference that includes research paper presentation opportunities not only for professors but for students--both graduate and undergraduate students.

Pi Sigma Alpha: The national honorary society for political science majors, and it is important to note that Eastern Illinois University has had a chapter since the 1960s.

The Washington Center: The premier Washington, D.C. organization involved in providing quality internships for students wishing to combine an excellent academic experience with applied experience in policy-making, administration and politics in our nation's capital.

The EIU Study Abroad Office:  The Political Science major works well for students wishing to combine an international education experience with progress toward their degree requirements, whether you are in the general B.A. in Political program or working on the International Studies Option for the PLS Major.

EIU Community Service Office: A resource for students interested in deepening their engagement in the local community, and this is particularly relevant to political science majors interested in exploring civic engagement opportunities.
