The Simple Steps to Becoming EIU

To be eligible for degree candidacy, applicants must meet all of the requirements for admission to the Graduate School and the music program.

Sign Up for MyEIU and Learn More about Eastern

Your MyEIU account is free and easy; all it takes is an email address to get started. You can even sign up via Facebook! Once you've logged into MyEIU, you can learn everything there is to know about Eastern and get information about everything the university has to offer — all tailored to your unique set of interests!

Apply to the Graduate School

All students can apply to the graduate school through MyEIU. The graduate school requires:

  1. A complete online application
  2. A copy of your official transcripts
  3. A $30 application fee
  4. Now that you have applied to the Graduate School, please complete the Program Application. There is no need to wait until accepted by the Graduate School to complete the next step.

Apply to the Program

Thank you for your interest in graduate study at Eastern Illinois University. To be eligible for degree candidacy, applicants must meet all of the requirements for admission to the Graduate School.

For admission to the Master of Arts in Music, Concentrations in Vocal, Instrumental, or Keyboard Performance, Conducting, or Composition, please do the following:

  1. Mail or e-mail a statement of interest, a resume, and two letters of recommendation to Dr. Anna Cromwell, Department of Music Graduate Coordinator. The letters of recommendation may be sent or emailed directly to Dr. Anna Cromwell (alcromwell@eiu.edu).

  1. Concentration requirements:

  2. Performance (Voice, Keyboard, Instrumental) – Complete an audition. Audition request form.
    Conducting – Submit a video recording of a recent performance or rehearsal and complete an audition. Audition request form.
    Composition – Submit scores and recordings of original compositions to the Graduate Coordinator.

For admission to the Master of Arts in Music, Concentration in Music Education, please do the following:

  1. Read and fill out the appropriate document:

  1. Concentration requirement for Music Education – Undergraduate degree in music education and a minimum of one year teaching experience required.

  2. Complete a personal interview.

Keep an Eye on Your Admission Status

You'll be able to keep tabs on the status of your application through MyEIU; you'll receive a message when you have been officially admitted to EIU!

Apply for an Assistantship

If you are interested in a graduate assistantship, you also need to submit a graduate assistantship application.

Graduate assistantships are typically awarded in accordance with the academic year. Assistantship applications are normally accepted through the middle of February; a decision for the next academic year comes within a month. For more information about graduate assistantships, please click here.
