Panther Basketball Band Attendance

Perfect attendance is considered the norm.  Band demands on your time will be announced in advance and band members should make the necessary arrangements to be at all required functions.  Attendance will be kept by the Director at the game.  At certain functions, a graduate assistant or senior assistant may be directing the band.  Their job is to notate attendance and whether members are on time or late and to not make judgements regarding the excusing of absences or tardies.  Any and ALL questions regarding attendance, including tardies, should be directed to Mr. Sullivan.

LATE ARRIVALS

Any student (other than those with regular class conflicts) arriving late (tardy) to a rehearsal should report to the director immediately upon arrival. Failure to do so will result in the student being reported absence, rather than tardy.


PRE-EXCUSED ABSENCES

All requests to be excused from Panther Basketball Band functions must be submitted via the absence excuse form in advance of the date requested.  Failure to do so will result in an automatic unexcused absence.  Absences can only be excused by Mr. Sullivan.  Students requesting an absence will be required to find a substitute that plays the same instrument AND PART for that performance obligation.


ILLNESS/EMERGENCY

If you become ill or experience an emergency, send an email to Mr. Sullivan prior to the rehearsal or performance you will miss.  Before returning to the next rehearsal or performance, you should include a written explanation for the absence.  Excuses for illness should be accompanied by a doctor’s note. 


REGULAR REHEARSALS

Rehearsals are scheduled on Mondays from 7:00-8:30 PM, except on game days, in the Band Rehearsal Hall.  All regular rehearsals are required. The only excuses accepted for missing rehearsals are illness, family crisis, weddings or funerals in the immediate family, religious obligations, and performances with other Department of Music ensembles.  All excused absences must be cleared by Mr. Sullivan by filling out an absence excuse form, which is available in the Band Office (DFAC 0352).


UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

Missing a rehearsal or performance for any reason other than those listed previously will be considered unexcused.  In addition, attending a rehearsal without your instrument will also be considered an unexcused absence.  Do not schedule doctor appointments during a rehearsal or performance as this will be deemed an unexcused absence.


PERFORMANCES

There will only be one band for the 2011-2012 season.  ALL members are expected to be present and on time for all performances.  For all games, you must provide a substitute for your instrument (and part) if you cannot attend your assigned game.  Play your assigned part unless a director indicates otherwise.  Anyone more than 10 minutes late from the report time or not in uniform will not be admitted to the game, unless they have cleared the tardy with Mr. Sullivan.


CLASS CONFLICTS

On occasion, a student’s academic schedule may create a conflict with a portion of regular basketball band rehearsals or performances.  Any conflict of this nature must be cleared by Mr. Sullivan.  It is the student’s responsibility to fill out a class conflict form before the first game.
