Athletic Band Advisory Council
The mission of the EIU Athletic Bands is to enhance the EIU collegiate experience while positively representing the Eastern Illinois University. Our high-caliber musical and visual performances engage the crowd at home and abroad. We take pride in our values of education and professionalism, as well as in our student-led tradition of excellence as reflected in our rehearsals and public appearances.
What does the ABAC do?
The ABAC is a group of student leaders that handles many logistical activities that encompass the EIU Athletic Bands. We plan and help with several "behind the scenes" aspects of the the bands, including:
- planning and running PMB Festival in the fall;
- coordinating the end-of-season Band Banquet;
- recruiting, particularly during winter break, spring term, and summer months;
- writing, designing, and publishing Panther Sound, the Athletic Band newsletter;
- planning social activities throughout the year, such as the Family Weekend BBQ;
- and much more!
Who is in the ABAC?
The ABAC is composed of members from a variety of sections in the bands, including woodwinds, brass, percussion and color guard, as well as the drum majors. Anyone in the Athletic Bands are welcome to join band council. We strive to have representation from each specific instrument section.
When does the ABAC meet?
The ABAC meets once a month in Doudna 0435. Times are dependent on the membership's schedule. All members of the Athletic Bands are welcome to attend.
How do I join ABAC?
First of all, attend meetings. Secondly, apply! Applications are taken in the November and December, and members serve for a calendar year (Jan.-Dec.)
