Overview

Our program is designed to provide each student with a strong, broad background for a B.S. in geology and/or geography, yet is sufficiently flexible to allow students freedom to follow their own interests. The student may choose either general geology or geography with a general, environmental, or geographic techniques/spatial analysis emphasis. Ample opportunity is available for independent student research and internships in the student's chosen field of study. Such research is an integral part of the curriculum regardless of the option chosen.

Typical Starting Positions

Many geologists are employed by industries related to oil and gas, mining and minerals, environmental and water resources. Others are self-employed as geological consultants, Licensed Professional Geologist, or work for environmental engineering and consulting firms. Also, many work for the federal or state government in organizations such as the: U.S. Geological Survey, Department of Energy, Forest Service and Army Corps of Engineers; National Aeronautics and Space Administration; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; or state geological surveys.
