Then you should consider a major and career in management. Excellent managers are the foundation of all successful businesses and organizations. Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, and directing organizations.

You can prepare for a management career by majoring in management, one of five business majors offered by Eastern Illinois University?s School of Business. EIU?s School of Business is student-centered and fosters relationship-driven learning between students and faculty. Management students in the School of Business can reach their potential through a variety of learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. All management and business classes are taught by faculty members ? not graduate students ? using collaborative and project based learning as well as more traditional teaching methods. Management majors may choose to complete a concentration of courses in International or Human Resource Management.

Typical Starting Positions

A major in management provides the opportunity for a variety of management careers such as: Working within a large corporation or other organization where managers specialize depending on the unit or department in which they work; Owing or operating a small or family business that requires a variety of managerial responsibilities; Focusing on human resource management, including responsibilities like employee recruitment, selection, orientation, training, performance appraisal, and compensation; Working in the business world for several years and then pursuing a graduate degree such as the MBA with the goal of becoming upper level executive.
