Self Help - Hardware Problems
Hardware problems might have symptoms like a flickering monitor, or a mouse that doesn't work. Less obvious symptoms may be complex. Keep your warranty and service agreement information in a file near your computer, have the emergency phone number available, and maintain a record of past problems.
Before reporting problems, make sure that everything is properly connected, plugged in, and turned on.
Self Help - Software Problems
Symptoms of software problems may include frequent "freezes" or other problems that seem directly related to software or your computer's operating system.
If you suspect software malfunction, try re-starting your computer.
For problems with using a feature of the software application you will need to use the software help function, access the software manufacturer's website, or contact the software manufacturer and pay for help.
EIU Help Desk
The EIU Help Desk will not be able to help you with hardware related problems. The EIU Help Desk (581-4357) may be able to help you troubleshoot software problems. The Help Desk is located at the Gregg Triad Computer Lab.
EIU Union Bookstore
The EIU Union Bookstore provides service for Apple computers and has computers for loan while repairs are being made. HP and Lenovo computers are also supported if purchased throughthe Bookstore.
Contact Manufacturer
Eastern Illinois University is not responsible for service of the laptops; students will need to follow the manufacturer's instructions for service.
