Thank you for your interest in the M.S. in Kinesiology & Sports Studies program at Eastern Illinois University. The mission of the M.S. in KSS program is to engage students in advanced scholarship for the purpose of generating, disseminating, and applying knowledge specific to physical activity, sport, and their various applied systems in order to professionally prepare students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, effective communicators, and leaders in their chosen are of concentration.
To meet the standards set forth in this mission statement our faculty work to engage our students in and out of the classroom. We pride ourselves on the personal interactions our students are able to have with our faculty, and we are consistently a destination program for students seeking opportunities to grow through individualized mentorship and practical experience.
As a program we are fortunate to offer a number of funding opportunities for our future students. We have a highly competitive process for awarding graduate assistantships, and I would encourage you to inquire further about the financial support available.
We emphasize the importance of practical experience in our program and believe that our strategic partnerships with external organizations sets us apart from other programs who seek to offer similar degrees. We boast strong connections to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, the Mattoon YMCA, the Body Club, EIU Athletics, EIU Campus Recreation, and a number of other professional organizations that afford our students the opportunity to gain experience and build their resumes while enrolled in our program.
Our program is organized around three concentration areas within KSS. I would encourage you to explore our Exercise Science, Sport Administration, and Sport Pedagogy/Coaching programs to learn more about the area that interests you most.
Again, thank you for your interest in our program, and please contact me directly with any questions you may have as you learn more about the M.S. in KSS program here at Eastern. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
All the best,
Clinton J. Warren, Ph.D.
