This year's Shannon Run will be held on April 22 (2pm) at the Campus Pavilion. Send an email to josands@eiu.edu for further information on the race. Shannon McNamara was an Eastern Illinois University student who was tragically murdered during the summer of 2001. While at Eastern Shannon was a Physical Education major, a member of the Physical Education Honors Club, a student worker at the SRC, and a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. Shannon was and still is a true inspiration! The last year's winners are depicted in the picture above.

 Vision

The department of Kinesiology and Sports Studies at Eastern Illinois University strives to become students' first choice when deciding where to earn a degree in the areas of pedagogy, exercise science, athletic training, or sport management. KSS faculty will empower students to become responsible and contributing members of a healthy and active community. We will broaden their perspectives, enrich their awareness, and prepare them for meaningful careers within a global society.

Mission

The mission of the department of Kinesiology and Sports Studies at Eastern Illinois University includes:

  1. Professionally preparing our students to gain the experience and knowledge needed for careers in pedagogy, exercise science, athletic training, or sport management.
  2. Guiding student learning in the development of skills, habits, and attitudes that promote health and wellness.
  3. Providing advanced discovery and application of knowledge through guided research and creative activities.
  4. Encouraging the development of critical thinking and good communication skills through professional growth opportunities and experiences.
  5. Promoting leadership through service at Eastern Illinois University and in professional organizations.
