Kinesiology and Sports Studies Department

The department of Kinesiology and Sports Studies at Eastern Illinois University strives to become students' first choice when deciding where to earn a degree in the areas of pedagogy, exercise science, athletic training, or sport management. KSS faculty will empower students to become responsible and contributing members of a healthy and active community. We will broaden their perspectives, enrich their awareness, and prepare them for meaningful careers within a global society.

Department's Highlights

NSCA Certified Personal Trainer Certification Exam

All Kinesiology and Sports Studies students have an opportunity to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer certification exam on Saturday April 12th 2014.  Students can access the NSCA website at www.nsca.com/ to register.   The early registration deadline is January 31, 2014, and the registration cutoff is February 14, 2014.  Students DO NOT need to be graduating seniors to take this exam!!!  Therefore, any Kinesiology and Sports Studies student, regardless of year in school can prepare and take the exam.  A CPR and AED certification is required, but does NOT need to be obtained prior to taking the exam.  There will be seven FREE informal study sessions offered to help students prepare—the dates and times will be formally announced at the beginning of Spring semester.  In order for the NSCA to sponsor this exam, we need to have a minimum of 15 students register.  Once we have the official count on registration, students that are registered will be given specific instructions about the process taking place on the day of the exam.

A $25 discount on the registration fee is available to EIU students - use code ERPEIUP.

Study sessions for the exam are on Wednesdays.  Dates are February 19 and 26, March 5, 19, and 26, and April 2 and 9.  All sessions are from 2-2:50 p.m. and are in Lantz 1420.
