Start the journalism journey with these simple steps
The Eastern Illinois University Department of Journalism requires all entering freshmen and transfer students who are journalism majors to purchase a laptop computer. While we prefer that students purchase an Apple MacIntosh laptop, we provide specifications for a comparable Windows laptop. More on the laptop requirements here.
Shadow a journalism student!
Students interested in shadowing a current journalism major should send an email to email@example.com with the date they wish to visit Monday-Thursday and their area of interest – editing, design, broadcast, public relations, new media or photography. A journalism major who has similar interests will take you to classes and introduce you to campus. If you're interested in print, come down the evening before and join the newsroom staff as the DEN goes to press. Broadcast students should plan on staying late on the day of their "shadow" to watch the live 5:30 p.m. WEIU-TV newscast. Students can stay overnight in Lawson Hall for only $25.
