INTRODUCTION

Bio Information
Dr. Mildred Pearson is Professor at Eastern Illinois University where she teaches in the College of Education and Professional Studies in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle Level Education.  Dr. Pearson teaches the following courses: Developmental Reading in Elementary School, Language Arts in Elementary School, Advanced Reading in the Content Area, Diagnostic Prescriptive Reading, Remedial Reading Practicum, Interdisciplinary Curriculum, Classroom Management, Principles and Procedures in the Middle Level School and Social and Emotional Development of the Adolescent Child.  She is the Founder of the Bridging Voices in Our Community: Bullying Prevention Project and Inaugraul Director of Faculty Development where she served for over 6 years at EIU. As Director, Dr. Pearson laid the foundation for excellence to ensure that Faculty Development continues to be a rich resource for the EIU learning community, by implementing teaching and learning workshops. Building a national network of contacts, Dr. Pearson brought several leading experts in their discipline to Eastern Illinois University, a testament to her passion and enthusiasm for improving teaching and learning(See faculty development speakers on her website). Additionally, her love for her students comes from her long-term interest in adolescents’ social and emotional well-being. Prior to teaching in higher education, Pearson taught middle school for 17 years.  Her research interest is social cognition, with a focus on self-efficacy. With almost 30 years of evidence-based practice, her passion for bullying prevention has evolved into a venue for healthy dialogue among scholars and practitioners into a community of learners.  A victim of bullying herself, she shares her story of how her own efficaciousness allowed her to overcome pain; while having a strong faith in God, a strong supportive family, and excellent faculty mentors. She recently received the Achievement Contribution Award for Service 2015 and she was featured on the EIU homepage at:

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her dogs Marcus Jamal and Kayleigh Grace, reading, listening to music, traveling and seeing the world. Dr. Pearson also enjoys spending time with her family.
