INTRODUCTION

Professor Beakley specializes in philosophy of mind, linguistics, and philosophy of science (particularly models of explanation). 

Professor Beakley is coeditor of Philosophy of Mind: Classical Problems / Contemporary Issues (MIT Press: 1992; second edition 2006), and translated Jean-François Lyotard's Phenomenology (SUNY Press: 1991).

PhD Philosophy, Stony Brook University (SUNY)

Professor Beakley has also studied Linguistics at the graduate level at Stony Brook and the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and was a Visiting Scientist in Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
