Automatic Admission for Entering Freshman Students

All entering freshman students who have an ACT composite score of 26 or greater AND an unweighted high school GPA of 3.50 or greater on a 4.0 scale will be admitted automatically. If you don't receive a letter from Honors a few weeks after being admitted to EIU, feel free to e-mail us.

Dean's Choice Admission for Entering Freshman Students

If you have EITHER of the academic criteria above (i.e. a 26+ ACT OR a 3.5/4.0 GPA) but not the other, you may still be admitted if you fill out the application immediately below. You should receive a reply from the Dean within a few weeks of completing the application.

Current EIU Students and Transfer Students

Continuing students with an EIU GPA of 3.5 can be admitted to university Honors at any time. They are most likely to be able to complete the program if they apply after their first or second semester. If you are interested in joining the University Honors program e-mail Honors advisor Sara Schmidt with
your e-number,
current EIU GPA, and
number of credits earned.

Students transferring to EIU from another post-secondary institution who have a GPA of 3.5 (on a 4 point scale) can also be admitted to university or departmental honors. Permission from the dean of the Honors College may be required for individuals on the borderline. Transfer students interested in joining the University Honors program should e-mail Director of Honors Student Affairs Dr. Tom Spencer with
their e-number,
number of credits being transferred,
prior institution GPA, and
details about any prior involvement in a college honors program.
