The Eastern Illinois University 2.5K Homecoming Race, a major fundraiser for the Student Association for Recreation and Rho Phi Lambda honors society, returns for its 15th year. In addition to serving as a fundraiser for these student organizations, the EIU 2.5K Homecoming Race serves as a valuable integrative learning experience for undergraduate students majoring in Recreation Administration at Eastern Illinois University.
The EIU 2.5K Homecoming Race is for runners and walkers of all ages and begins at 9 a.m. Participants begin at the corner of Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue, making their way north on Seventh Street to the Charleston Square, then returning to Old Main via Sixth Street. An entry fee of $10 will be collected from each participant, while awards are designated for the top male and female finisher in each of three categories: run, walk, and wheelchair. A variety of prizes, food, and drinks will provided to all racers. In addition, an award is also planned for the best full-body costume worn by a participant.
Participants can preregister by visiting www.eiu.edu/homecomingrace/register.php. Race-day registration is also an option and will be taken from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the lobby of Old Main, located between Fourth and Seventh Streets on Lincoln Avenue. Individuals with questions about the event are encouraged to contact Michael Mulvaney at 581-6589.
