Located conveniently in the south quad, the Pharmacy provides students with medications prescribed by Health Service providers, private physicians, and dentists. The Pharmacy also carries a variety of over-the-counter medications,as well as other personal items, so students don’t have to leave campus!
Prescriptions & Refills
Our goal is to provide our students with affordable medications for acute illnesses. Prescriptions are accepted from any licensed physician, provider, or dentist if the medication is on the Pharmacy formulary. The Pharmacy carries a specific selection of medications and not all products are stocked. However, items can be special ordered.
Refills can be ordered by phone if the Health Service Pharmacy filled the original prescription and there are refills remaining. For faster service, please call your refills in to (217) 581-7779.
The Pharmacy stocks a large selection of over-the-counter medications that are available without seeing a nurse or physician. Over-the-counter medications include, but are not limited to: pain, fever, nausea, cough and cold, allergy, heartburn, and topical. The Pharmacy also carries a variety of personal items so students don’t have to leave campus! Some of the items available for purchase include: first Aid supplies, lip balm, feminine supplies, cough drops, emergency contraceptive, condoms, and pregnancy tests.
Contraceptives start at $25 per cycle. Please note that not all brands of contraceptives are stocked. Check with the Pharmacy for a complete list of those in stock, as well as pricing information.
Pricing & Payment Information
Prescriptions are accepted from EIU and outside providers. Student Health Insurance is now paying part of the cost for prescriptions filled at the EIU Pharmacy. Copays are $5, $10, and $20 for most covered medications. Most contraceptives are available at no copay. Contact the Pharmacy at (217) 581-7786.
Payments may be made via cash or by billing the student’s university account. The Pharmacy is unable to accept the following forms of payment: debit or credit cards, Panther debit, and checks. Additionally, the Pharmacy does not accept individual insurance or Medicaid cards.

Who can use the Pharmacy?

I had my prescription filled at home before I came to school and would like to have it filled here. What do I do?
Bring your bottle or compact with the label from your pharmacy at home to the Health Service Pharmacy. The staff will call your home pharmacy and have it transferred.
I get my birth control from Planned Parenthood or another family planning clinic at home. How do I get them here?
Most Planned Parenthoods and other family planning clinics require you to contact them regarding a transfer of prescription. Typically, you must first sign a release to transfer your records to another facility. Check with their office regarding their procedures.
