Freshmen Ruling

Statistic show that students who live in the residence halls are receive higher GPA's, have a more successful transition from high school to college, make friends quicker, become more involved with campus, and have a higher overall satisfaction with their university experience. Therefore, it is a university policy that all freshmen must live in the residence halls. Freshmen can live in 11 of the 12 residence halls.

Applying for Housing

The Housing application is separate from the application for admission. To apply for housing, students can complete the housing application form enclosed in their admitted student packet or on-line. There is a $50.00 non-refundable fee which accompanies students housing applications.

Assignment Process

Once the housing application has been received, students will receive residence hall contracts and surveys in March. At this time they will indicate their first, second, and third choice of buildings and their preferred meal plan.

Students also have the opportunity to request a specific roommate if they choose to do so. We will do our best to accommodate mutual roommate requests realizing that at times space becomes a limiting factor. Students not requesting a specific roommate will be assigned with a roommate based on their completed survey. On the survey we inquire about study and sleeping habits, so that roommate matches are compatible.

Student room assignments are made based on the date that each student applies for housing. Therefore, it is in students' best interest to send in their housing application as soon as possible so that we can accommodate any specific building, room, or roommate requests they may have.

Special Needs

If a student has a special need, which should be considered when making room assignments, please attach a note to the housing survey. It is also highly recommended that students with special needs contact the Office of Disability Services at (217) 581-6583.
