What type of scholarships are available for incoming freshmen?
The majority of scholarships at EIU are administered by the individual
academic departments. Most deadlines for scholarships are around February/March,
so encourage your students to apply early. Other
scholarship search opportunities.
When is the deadline to apply for admission?
Eastern is on a rolling admission policy, meaning we will accept applications
as space allows, so there is not a formal deadline. All applicants
will be reviewed in the context of the competitive applicant pool. All
will be considered upon academic policies, proven academic success and
space availability.

TRIO/Student Support Services?
TRIO/Student Support Services is a component
of the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) that is funded through
the U.S. Department of Education. This program provides individual support
to selected students. Selection is prioritized from lower-income and first-generation
college students and/or college students with disabilities. The benefits
of selected
include: 1) individual tutoring and counseling, 2) study skill enhancement,
3) cultural opportunity, 4) career counseling, and 5) leadership development
training.
What is textbook rental?
Students at EIU can rent their textbooks instead of purchasing them. Students
are charged a per credit hour fee of $9.95 for their books. This is a
cost savings of $300 to $500 per semester.

EIU accept AP or CLEP scores?
Do freshmen have to live in the residence halls?
Yes, unless you are within a 50-mile radius and you plan to commute.
Do freshmen have to live in Carman Hall?
No, freshmen have the option to live in 11
of our 12 residence halls. While most of the students living in Carman
Hall are freshmen, the majority of our freshmen class live in other halls.
Can freshmen live in Greek housing?
Typically no. Sometimes if there are vacancies in the house, some second
semester freshmen have moved into those spots.
When do students register for classes?
Students who have been accepted for the fall semester
will receive a postcard with instructions on how to sign up for their
Debut Day.Freshmen
Debut Days are held the entire month of June. At Debut, students will
meet with their advisor and register for classes.
Are jobs available to students who do not receive
work-study?
Yes, there are numerous positions throughout the campus community. The
Office of Financial Aid posts job openings in their office and on-line.
We also encourage students to contact departments directly to inquire
about openings because not all areas notify Financial Aid when they have
openings.
