Scholarships 2016

These awards are for individual recognition and scholarship. Chapters can nominate from within their own chapter or outside their chapter and council. Some require having the candidate fill out additional material. Please read each scholarship/award carefully and submit all paper work. The candidate will be held responsible to hand in any other additional material. Please NOTE - some awards require nominated individuals to submit their own application.

 

Charles "Tight" Carter Awards

Sponsored by the Interfraternity Council, The Charles “Tight” Carter Awards recognize fraternity men who have given outstanding contributions in the areas of community service, athletics, student government, academic performance, and the IFC overall. Awards are given in each category. 

Sorority chapters are able to nominate fraternity men for this award.  

 

Thomas R. Grud Scholarship

The Thomas R. Grud Award recognizes a fraternity man who has made signification contributions Eastern Illinois University fraternity and sorority community, while also working to pay a portion of his tuition or room and board. The Scholarship is awarded for the Fall 2016 semester, and the applicant must be enrolled for that semester. 

Chapters should promote this award to chapter members. Candidates must write a one to two-page letter describing his contributions to the Eastern Illinois University fraternity and sorority community. Also, include information pertaining to their employment and work ethics. Address the items below in addition to the one to two-page letter. 

 

Ruby Trimble Scholarship

The Ruby Trimble Scholarship recognizes fraternity and sorority members for their academic and leadership skills. This award recognizes individuals for their dedication to be leaders within the Eastern Illinois fraternity/sorority community while achieving academic excellence. The Scholarship is awarded for the Fall 2016 semester, and the applicant must be enrolled for that semester. 

Chapters should promote this award to members of the chapter. 

 

Order of Omega: Outstanding Leadership Scholarship

Order of Omega supplies a scholarship to recognize an individual for their leadership not only to their chapter, but to the Eastern Illinois University fraternity and sorority community, as well as the overall student body. Please note the candidate must be a member of Order of Omega.  

 

Norma Taylor UIFI Scholarship

The Norma Taylor UIFI Scholarship recognizes leaders within the Eastern Illinois University fraternity and sorority community by providing a full scholarship to attend a session of the Undergraduate InterFraternity Institute (UIFI) to further expand and challenge their leadership skills and knowledge.   UIFI is a five-day institute that brings together fraternity men and sorority women from across North America to create opportunities to explore, define, and enhance their leadership skills, personal awareness, commitment to their fraternity or sorority, and grow to expect values based action from themselves and those they lead. At UIFI, you will be given the skills to improve your own leadership abilities and positively affect your chapter, council, and community.  Individuals interested in this opportunity must fill out the form located at the end of this packet.  Part of the application process will consist of a letter from a chapter president or advisor.  The recipients of the scholarship must be returning as active undergraduate members for the 2016 academic year, and able to attend UIFI in May, June or July of 2016. The scholarship covers attendance at UIFI, but does not cover travel to Bloomington, IN.

 

PHC Women's Empowerment Scholarship

Sponsored by the Panhellenic Association, the Women’s Empowerment Scholarship recognizes a sorority woman for her efforts, on and off campus, to enhance and support women’s issues. Chapters should promote this award to its members.
