Textbook Rental has been part of Eastern Illinois University since 1899. Construction of this new facility will greatly improve the efficient distribution and collection of textbooks. The Edgar Avenue location will be convenient for the majority of student housing and provide off street parking for commuters. The facility will consist of 19,200 gross square feet; contain storage for 210,000 volumes and sufficient prep area for staff. Self-service distribution and efficient returns will provide quick service for students. The structure will include sustainable features such as geothermal wells for a ground source heat pump heating and cooling system. Other conservative measures will include high efficiency lighting, occupancy sensors, high efficiency plumbing fixtures, white roof and reflective paving to reduce heat island effect, and polished concrete floor.
Project is nearing completion.
Exterior work includes finishing the concrete walks and sign base, finish grading, and exterior sealant around the building.
Interior work includes installation of the decorative panels on the south wall, carpet in the offices, pulling electrical wiring and setting fixtures, hanging cabinets, and completion of the HVAC installation.
There are two heat pumps delivered that were incorrectly assembled and had to be returned. The correct units are expected to be delivered within the next few days.
Project is working with the book handling equipment vendor to coordinate casework details and electrical/data information prior to fabrication of the counter spaces.
Punch list inspections are scheduled for the first week of November.
