About Us

If you are working on an article, a book chapter, a grant report, or any other writing project, you might be interested in the "write-on-site" group that meets in the Faculty Development office. What does it mean to "write-on-site"? The term was coined by Kerry Ann Rockquemore (Sociology and African-American studies at UIC) and describes people coming together to work on their particular projects for two hours at least once a week. Although people are working on their own projects, writing together in one place can provide the accountability of showing up, cultivate the sense that we are part of a community of writers and help create that energy buzz that comes from being around others who are doing the same thing.

Spring 2018, our Write-on-Site block times are Mondays 1-4pm, Wednesdays 9-12pm and Thursdays 9:30-12pm, except during Holidays. Let us know if you are interested in using our Office as a quiet space either W morning or afternoon, or Th morning or afternoon (or any two of these). We will then modify our hours based on the response. Please join us. Just bring your laptop to the Faculty Development Office, feel free to use the large conference table, comfortable chairs, and all the tea or coffee you want. The office should be used as a place for Write-on-Site, basically a quiet place to write and a small accountability group. (We will send out a note on various helps with your academic writing shortly.)

For further information contact the Faculty Development Office at 581-7051.

Also, let us know if you want a writing partner or a writing group and we will help you make arrangements. Finally, we are planning a Write Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks faculty course for Spring 2018. Let us know if you are interested.
