Linda Simpson

MS in FCS Graduate Coordinator, Executive Director Literacy in Financial Education (LIFE) Center

Dr. Linda Simpson, Ph.D., CFCS, CPFFE has been a faculty member in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences since 1997 and serves as the MS in FCS Graduate Coordinator and Executive Director of the Literacy in Financial Education (LIFE) Center. Dr. Simpson received a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and MS and BS degrees from Eastern Illinois University.

Dr. Simpson’s subject matter expertise is in the areas of consumer studies and financial literacy. She has numerous publications and has presented at local, state, national, and international conferences on the topics of online teaching and learning, budgeting and debt management, and consumer behavior. Funding from a competitive grant received from TIAA Cref and the Council on Graduate Studies was used for the development of the Literacy in Financial Education (LIFE) Center. The purpose of the Center is to prepare students to play an active role in managing their personal finances and make informed decisions about saving, spending and borrowing. Based on the educational programs developed for the Center, she received the 2016 Family Economics and Resource Management Community Award from the Community of Family Economics and Resource Management of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Currently, Dr. Simpson serves as the principle investigator for the Illinois Seniors Smart Home Initiative funded through the Illinois Science and Energy Innovation Foundation. The purpose of the project is to accelerate senior consumer participation in the utility smart grid programs and use of smart grid-enable home energy management in their homes.
