Kathleen Phillips

Professor and Internship Coordinator

     Kathleen Phillips, professor and Intern Coordinator in the Department of Health Studies, has been teaching health education professional preparation courses at EIU since 1978. During her career, Kathy has authored articles and made numerous presentations on professional program assessment and internship practices. She successfully completed the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) requirements in 1989 and the Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) requirements in 2011.
     A native of Lilly, Pennsylvania,  Dr. Phillips has made trips to both the Arctic and Antarctic regions.  In 2001, Dr Phillips spent 2 weeks living in the interior of Antarctica experiencing life in a polar camp, explored the area on skis and learned polar survivor skills. In 2011, Dr. Phillips traveled to Yellowknife, Canada, capital of the Northwest Territories. While there, she experienced polar life through dog sledding, snow shoeing, learning about native Inuit culture and viewing the aurora borealis.
