Janet McCumber is adjunct Instructor of Music at Eastern Illinois University, where she directs the University Mixed Chorus and teaches music appreciation. She completed a Master of Arts degree in Music with a concentration in Choral and Orchestral Conducting from Eastern in May 2010 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois. She has studied conducting with Dr. Lawrence Edwards, Dr. Joe Grant, and Dr. Richard Rossi. Prior to coming to Eastern, Mrs. McCumber taught at the high school level for fourteen years and also ran a private voice studio. She has been active in both the Illinois Music Educators’ Association (IMEA) and the Illinois chapter of the American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA), holding offices in both organizations. She presented clinics at the IMEA All-State Conference in 2007 and 2009, has adjudicated at vocal/choral contests in the area, and has conducted high school choral festivals in northwestern and northeastern Illinois. In November 2010 she will be the guest conductor for the IMEA District VIII Junior Mixed Chorus.
