“Lift Every Voice": Identity and Struggles for Freedom in a Postmodern World 1100-1150 MWF
This senior seminar seeks to problematize the relationship between identity and politics through explorations of the role of identity in contemporary struggles for freedom from oppression. Our focus will be on the transformative power of the humanities to reveal inequalities, inspire new visions of freedom, and alter human systems of power and privilege. This writing intensive course requires students to read and write critically about various struggles against oppression and to engage with in- and out-of-class activities designed to raise awareness about freedom struggles in the U.S. and globally.
Note: This University Senior Seminar does not fulfill the English Honors Senior Seminar requirement, English 4300/4390.
