English 4762  Poetry Writing

Section 001       CRN 31647
Poetry Writing    1530-1645 MW

As an advanced writing class, this class assumes your interest in and seriousness about being a writer. As writers, then, you will workshop your poems to develop your editing skills and poetic voices by listening to the feedback you receive. You will further learn to do this by reading contemporary poets and studying their use of language, imagery, and form. You will keep a journal of your study of these poets’ works so you can develop a stronger sense of what kinds of poems appeal to you and why, and in the process learn how your work fits into the kinds of poetry being written today. At the end you will be graded on a portfolio of revised poems, the journal, and class participation. (Group 5)
