Thesis in Literary Studies

The Components of a Prospectus in Literary Studies (approximately 1500 words, accompanied by a schedule and relevant bibliography):

• Clear statement of the goals of the project, including pertinent background that demonstrates understanding of research in the field of study

• Statement of the critical approach(es) to be employed

• Clear presentation of the structure for the thesis and an explanation of how the parts relate to each other and to the whole

• Substantial and current preliminary bibliography that identifies primary texts and major secondary works to be studied

• Identification of thesis director and committee

• Projected timeline for finishing the literary thesis

Thesis Guidelines:

The thesis in literary studies should be an original scholarly work that engages thoughtfully with the research in the field of study and adds in a substantive way to the general body of knowledge. The thesis includes a substantial bibliography or works cited.
