Timeline for Degree Completion
The Graduate School requires students to complete the degree within 6 years of the initial date of enrollment in the program.
Registering for Courses
Students should give preference to courses numbered 5000 or above. Students may take no more than 9 credit hours total of courses numbered 4750-4999 and numbered 5000 or above in departments outside of English.
Students in the Literary Studies with Creative Writing Emphasis concentration should note that they are required to take a course in the genre in which they will write the thesis.
A maximum of 6 credit hours of English 5990: Independent Study or of English 5950: Thesis may be counted toward the MA degree. A maximum 9 credit hours of English 5990 and English 5950, in combination, may be counted toward the MA degree.
GPA and Coursework
Students whose overall GPA is below 3.0 or whose transcript shows more than 9 credit hours of graduate coursework at below a “B” are ineligible for graduation.
