British Romantic Literature     1400-1515 TR

In this course, we will read widely and extensively in British literature from about 1780 to 1830. Readings will include well-known writers like Austen, Wordsworth, Keats, Coleridge, Blake, Byron and the Shelleys, as well as writers like DeQuincey, Robinson, Hays, Wollstonecraft, and Hazlitt.  We will discuss the divergent responses of these writers to their rapidly changing social and economic worlds and examine how their writings operate as fascinating and complex political and philosophical statements. Above all, our goal will be to develop a multifaceted and meaningful understanding of Romanticism. (Group 3B)
