The English minor is the most flexible of the four minors offered by EIU's English Department. The minor has only two required courses (one in literary studies and one in writing). Beyond that, students in the minor select 12 hours of electives in English to suit their needs. (You can see the catalog listing for the minor here.)
That means if you love to read and want to take the rest of your courses in literary studies, you can. Or if you want a minor that lets you combine creative writing and professional writing, you can do that. Or if you're interested in linguistics, you can take our three-course sequence in that area.
Whatever your interests in English, the English minor will let you pursue them.
If you're interested in one of our more targeted minors (Creative Writing, Professional Writing, or English Language Arts) you can read about them here.
