FMLA entitles employees to take reasonable leave, up to 12 weeks per year for medical reasons, for the birth or adoption of a child, and for the care of a child, spouse, or parent who has a serious health condition. An employee is eligible for FMLA only after twelve months of employment and with at least 1,250 hours of service during the 12-month period immediately before the leave begins.
