Master of Science in Elementary Education
This program is designed to offer education students the flexibility of completing a graduate degree in elementary education at off-campus sites. Students must also:
* Be admitted to the Graduate School
* Make a commitment to staying with the cohort throughout the program
* Complete all graduate requirements
Admission to the Graduate School can be done online. Admission to the Department requires a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of university coursework. A packet of submission materials for application to the department will be sent out to all interested students once the Graduate School has reviewed the online Graduate Application form.
What is a cohort?
A cohort involves a group of qualified candidates progressing together through a series of courses over a period of time, working toward graduation. Our graduate level cohorts are typically offered on a 2-1/2 year cycle, and include 2 courses offered each fall, spring and summer semesters (except for second spring semester and third fall semester, where only one course will be offered). Courses are delivered on site by professors who teach the same classes on campus. Course formats will vary semester by semester: some courses are offered once a week, some are offered in a weekend format and some are designed as a hybrid course (somme face-to-face meetings and some on-line sessions).

3. What if I am unable to take a course in the sequence due to uncontrollable circumstances? If a time conflict is anticipated, please discuss the situation with your advisor immediately, as some courses are pre-requisites for others.
4. Will I have to come to the EIU campus during my program? Textbooks for the courses are brought to you by your professor. Registration is done through your advisor.
