As the end of the semester closes in, be sure to take some time to relax and enjoy some of the holiday-themed events taking place on or near campus.

"A Christmas Carol"

The EIU Department of Theatre Arts presents Charles Dickens’ classic tale of a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of redemption through the intervention of ghostly apparitions.

  • When: 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28-Dec. 1; 2 p.m. Dec. 2
  • Where: The Theatre, Doudna Fine Arts Center
  • Cost: $12; $10 EIU employees and seniors; $5 students

26th Annual Holiday Art Sale

Choose from hundreds of one-of-a-kind original works of art handcrafted by local artists and EIU faculty and students. Proceeds benefit the EIU art department's scholarship fund.

  • When: 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1
  • Where: 1910 Doudna Fine Arts Center

EIU Holiday Hustle 5K Walk/Run

Organized by students in EIU's Honors First-Year Seminar; proceeds support the One Stop Community Christmas program, which provides toys, food, clothing and more to people in six area counties.

  • When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
  • Where: In front of Old Main
  • Cost: $15 for ages 12 and older; $10 for ages 6-11; free for 5 and under

Holiday Concert

Featuring the Eastern Symphony Orchestra and EIU choral ensembles, the program includes "Magnificat in D, BWV 243" by J.S. Bach and "A Christmas Carol Symphony" by Patric Stanford.

  • When: 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2
  • Where: Dvorak Concert Hall, Doudna Fine Arts Center
  • Cost: $12; $10 EIU employees and seniors; $5 students

Cookie Dough Swap Shop

Get a head start on holiday baking by working as a team to learn recipes and make eight types of cookie dough to take home, freeze and bake for holiday events.

  • When: 6-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3
  • Where: 2309 Klehm Hall
  • Cost: $40; register by calling the EIU School of Continuing Education at 581-5114

A Holiday Collage Concert

The EIU bands and Department of Music chamber ensembles will perform.

  • When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4
  • Where: Dvorak Concert Hall, Doudna Fine Arts Center
  • Cost: $5

EIU "Celebrating the Arts" holiday celebration

Enjoy free refreshments and holiday music. Trees will feature decorations made by students from local schools.

  • When: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, and 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13
  • Where: Cougill Foyer, Old Main
  • Cost: Free

"Lessons and Carols"

The EIU Concert Choir and Collegium Musicum will present its rendition of the famous King's College Service of Lessons and Carols.

  • When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6
  • Where: Wesley United Methodist Church, 2206 Fourth St., Charleston (just southwest of Lawson Hall).
  • Cost: Free
