By the end of the week, the campus of Eastern Illinois University will begin to wake from its summer slumber as students make their way to campus in preparation for the Fall 2013 semester, which opens Monday, Aug. 19.
The university’s official Move-In Day is Thursday, Aug. 15, but there’ll be a lot more happening around campus all weekend for both first-time EIU students and those who are returning to Eastern. Regardless of which you are, we have events designed to get your semester off to an excellent start!
As mentioned, Thursday is the official day to check in to your residence hall! Full details, including several helpful links for a smooth move-in process, are available online. Make sure you plan to hit the South Quad that evening; we’ll be serving a complimentary meal from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at our Welcome to the Neighborhood picnic.
Cool Off on the Quad
Moving all your gear can be sweaty work under the mid-August sun, but don’t worry … Career Services has you covered! Stop by the blue tent on the South Quad from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday for free water and frozen candy bars!
While you’re there, remember it’s never too early to start thinking about the internship and job market. Whether you’re a freshman or senior, we’ll have information pertinent to your future. There’ll also be prize drawings, so make sure to sign up!
This is the big one for students beginning their first semester at Eastern. Our New Student Programs office has designed these Prowl events to get you acclimated to campus by offering educational and social opportunities to learn about community expectations and how you can connect to EIU.
Participation in Prowl, which consists of your choice of Friday workshops and a Saturday service opportunity, is required for all new students, whether they’re incoming freshmen or transfers attending EIU for the first time. With a broad range of choices for both days’ programs, however, each student has ample opportunity to make the weekend both productive and enjoyable.
