The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle Level Education at Eastern Illinois University provides undergraduate and graduate programs for students seeking preparation to work with young children in the public school and community agency settings. We offer both on campus and off- campus programs. As one of the largest producers of teachers in the state of Illinois, our program is designed to provide learning experiences that will assist students in developing into highly competent and effective teachers. Students are able to expand their knowledge through course work, action research, and substantial field experiences. Students select a program in Early Childhood or Elementary/Middle Level Education. Our majors do well in the job market. Representatives from school districts from Illinois and neighboring states readily recruit our graduates.
