Daiva Markelis / White Field, Black Sheep: A Lithuanian-American Life

Dr. Daiva Markelis is Professor of English and Director of Composition at EIU. Her research areas include creative writing (nonfiction), ethnography, composition pedagogy, and women's memoir. She received her doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Language, Literacy, and Rhetoric. Her creative nonfiction has appeared in The Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine, Writing on the Edge, Women and Language,The Chicago Reader, Mattoid, and The Fourth River. Her short stories have been published in The Cream City Review and Other Voices. She teaches courses in creative writing, composition and rhetoric, and myth and culture.

Dr. Markelis' presentation is the annual EIU Center for the Humanities Faculty Lecture, and part of the Center's 2013-2014 series under the heading, Authenticity
