On Sunday, March 30, at 4 p.m. in the Doudna Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, EIU faculty members Magie Smith, Anna Cromwell, and Ka-Wai Yu will be joined by Terry Coulton and Elaine Fine in a performance of the clarinet quintets by Mozart and Brahms. These pieces are considered by many to be the most beautiful chamber works ever composed for clarinet and string quartet.
These works are very similar in their conception and performance. The styles are extremely different, but there are evident parallels between them, indicating that Brahms certainly drew inspiration from Mozart’s quintet.
This recital is presented by the EIU Music Department.
