The EIU Music Department Faculty Recital Series presents Horn Instructor, Dr. Katherine McBain, and Applied Tuba Instructor, Dr. Todd French, in a recital featuring music of Isaac Albeniz, Jan Koetsier, Johannes Brahms, Alec Wilder, Anthony Plog, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Lars-Erik Larsson. Accompanying on piano will be Jonathan Bowman.
Dr. Katherine C. McBain
Katherine Carothers McBain completed a DMA in Horn Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music in 2008. She previously earned a Master of Music degree from Eastman and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Houston. An active performer and recitalist, McBain has performed with various orchestras including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony, and the Round Top International Institute Festival Orchestra. She has been a featured horn soloist with Eastern Illinois University's Concert Choir, Eastern Symphony Orchestra, the Eastman Opera Orchestra, and Rochester's Concentus Women's Chorus. Having held the post of Instructor of Horn at Eastern Illinois University since 2007, McBain has also held teaching posts at the University of Rochester and Nazareth College.
Dr. Todd French
Todd M. French is the Applied Tuba Instructor at Eastern Illinois University. Along with his duties as the Applied Tuba Instructor, Dr. French also teaches brass methods, brass literature and pedagogy, brass chamber coaching, and actively performs with the EIU faculty brass quintet. He is an active recitalist and adjudicator and presents master classes across the Midwest.
Dr. French received his Doctorate of Music from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He also holds a Master of Music from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. French’s teachers include Daniel Perantoni, Anthony Kniffen, Craig Fuller, Scott Anderson, and Robert Jacobsen.
