Lecture + Opening Reception
Thursday, January 16 • 7:30 p.m.
Tarble Arts Center, Atrium
The shifting perspective that comes from walking around and through the art that makes up Kiosk feels familiar. We see it on the streets: signage, billboards, traffic signals, walls plastered with graffiti and old handbills all vie for our attention. With its own complex ability to distract and confuse, it also exists in a highly successful form in digital and television media. How we filter, focus and ultimately connect with just about any information -- be it visual or otherwise -- is a central concern of the exhibition and its particular system of presentation.
Kiosk is curated by Chicago artist Dan Devening, who teaches in the Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is the director of devening projects + editions, Chicago.
This is a New & Emerging Artists Series program presented by the EIU Department of Art and the Tarble Arts Center.
