Ben Weiner: Paintings and Video
eGallery, Tarble Arts Center
Weiner derives the imagery for his paintings and videos by magnifying commonplace materials of artifice from beauty products, art supplies and artificial food ingredients to create paintings that self-critically describe the duality of their own identity as both transcendent creation and commercial item.
Weiner will present an artist’s lecture in conjunction with the exhibition, with the date to be announced.
This is a New & Emerging Artists Series program of the EIU College of Arts and Humanities, presented by the Art Department and the Tarble Arts Center.

longviews: Recent Paintings & Drawings by Naomi Sugino Lear
eGallery, Tarble Arts Center
Artist Naomi Sugino Lear considers her paintings and drawings to be a visual diary: “I explore the idea of how our physical surroundings are an integral part of an artist’s diary. These subject matters are the places where I have lived and worked, where I have had both private and shared moments.” Born in Japan, Sugino Lear’s family moved to America when she was a child. An EIU alumna twice over with bachelor degrees in art and music, Lear is currently on the art faculty of Columbia College in Colombia, Missouri, where she teaches painting and drawing.
