Sarah Bush Lincoln

Sarah Bush Lincoln is a 128-bed, not-for-profit, acute-care regional hospital employing more than 2100 individuals. It is conveniently located on Illinois Route 16 between Charleston and Mattoon, only eight miles from the EIU campus. As a regional care facility, the Health Center provides a full range of services to residents of Coles and the surrounding six counties, including traditional hospital-based services, home health, weight management, wound care, hospice and durable medical equipment, mobile mammography, Peace Meals, and mobile dental services.

The Health Center's active and consulting medical staff includes 145 providers representing 28 specialties. Special services include a Regional Cancer Center, Behavioral Health Services, Women and Children's Services, Surgery Center, Heart Center with cardiac catheterization in partnership with Prairie Heart Institute of Illinois, Advanced Wound Center and Center for Interventional Pain, and a full complement of Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory services. Charleston - Mattoon

Situated in East Central Illinois, the Charleston-Mattoon area is well represented in business and industry. Just eight miles south of Charleston is Fox Ridge State Park with numerous recreational opportunities. Home to more than 40,000 residents, the Charleston-Mattoon area is full of friendly and diverse people.

Food Service Management

A variety of experiences are offered through Sarah Bush Lincoln: Food and Nutrition Services serves an average of 1,600 meals daily to patients, staff, and the community. The Room Service model of patient tray delivery is used to provide optimal nourishment to patients. Patients call the call center during the hours of 6:30 am to 6:30 pm to order their meals, which are delivered freshly prepared within about 30 minutes. The Basement Bistro offers a wide variety of menu selections with an emphasis on healthy choices. Catering services range from small meals to full-course dinners and private parties. The staff includes 47.9 FTE: foodservice director, foodservice supervisors, registered dietitians, secretary, room service coordinators and associates, Call Center associates and foodservice associates.

Clinical Rotations

A comprehensive experience in all aspects of clinical nutrition is provided through:

  • Inpatient care, including critical care, medical/surgical, maternal/child, pediatric, adult care, skilled nursing, and behavioral health.
  • Outpatient counseling includes diabetes, gestational diabetes, weight loss/weight gain, GI disorders, renal disease and healthy eating.
  • Nutritional consulting provided to hospice and home care patients.
  • Community service events include health fairs, speaking engagements, weight management programs, diabetes screenings and diabetic clinics.

The clinical staff includes four full-time registered dietitians, one of which is a certified diabetes educator.
