Welcome! It is generally easy to transfer to EIU and the Department of Communication Studies. EIU accepts most credit as credit, so even if a course from another institution does not have an EIU equivalent course, the credit hours should still count toward graduation. We accept transfer credit in all options within the major. We do not have departmental admission requirements, so most students can begin their communication studies coursework in their first semester at EIU.

Students transferring with an associate degree in arts, arts and science, science or arts and teaching will meet EIU's general education requirements. An associate degree in applied science or incomplete associate degree may require completion of additional general education courses at EIU.

Course substitution lists are available to help you see how a course taken at a community college will be counted at Eastern.

MyCeditsTransfer

MyCreditsTransfer is a statewide initiative designed to facilitate transfer within Illinois using the nationally available tool, Transferology. Within Transferology students can find out how courses transfer between institutions, how courses satisfy degree requirements and the different majors institutions offer.

New transfer students can contact the department’s central advisor, Leigh Bryan, at 217-581-8400 orlabryan@eiu.edu.
